A nice Redfish, measured, weighed and released

Jay Marshall’s illustrations and fine art reproductions have brought a fresh perspective to the tradition of marine art. His art is distinctive, with vivid colors and extreme detail to the image.

All of his  work reflects his knowledge, respect and love for the art of fishing, clearly he conveys a sense of having been there.

Both a professional artist and licensed charter boat captain, Jay lives the best of both worlds. Being located near such excellent saltwater fishing provides easy access to his favored subjects – marine life.

Prior to becoming involved in marine art, he was a commercial fisherman. Working as a mate aboard charter boats in the Ponce Inlet, Florida area. Even though there were many detours along the way, he never stopped guiding flats fishing trips and creating art works whenever able.

Now in his thirties with his two future fishing and research assistants – sons Morgan & Marlin, Jay’s wife, Laurie, supports his decision to take the plunge into art as his long-term career.

Jay obtains reference material from many different sources: first hand experience and by moving in close to his subjects; taking thousands of reference photographs – enable him to create anatomically accurate and a unique style of exaggerated realism to his art works.

Pointillism with pen & ink wash is Jay's choice of medium. He feels this allows him the detailed renderings, which cannot be obtained in other mediums.

His goal is to portray the beauty, wonder, & sheer power of our marine environment. Jay Marshall’s works hang in many private and commercial collections and are now being recognized along the tournament circuit. Anglers & discriminating collectors alike appreciate his illustrations.
